The demand for gold bullion in Indonesia has experienced positive growth, with a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of +9.5% over the past five years. This trend reflects increasing public awareness of gold as a safe haven asset. This phenomenon aligns with global trends, where gold prices continue to rise, and projections indicate that by the end of 2025, the price of gold may reach IDR 2.13 million per gram. These increases are driven by geopolitical factors and currency instability.
Gold investment offers not only asset value protection against inflation but is also highly accessible and liquid, making it suitable for investors of all levels, including beginners. Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), through its “Bank Emas” product and the digital platform BYOND by BSI, facilitates secure and efficient purchase, sale, and storage of gold. These products comply with Sharia principles, ensuring ownership of physical gold that is safely stored within the bank.
The advantages of gold investment are also evident in its role as a prudent solution for long-term financial planning, such as preparing for the costs of pilgrimage (Hajj), which tend to rise annually. With the continuous appreciation of gold prices, the amount of gold required to cover the Hajj expenses decreases, thus mitigating the risks of price fluctuations and future uncertainties.
Given these data and trends, it is expected that both the government and industry stakeholders will continue to strengthen the gold investment ecosystem in Indonesia. Enhancing digital technology utilization and public education is crucial to optimize the national gold potential. Meanwhile, the public is reminded to view gold not only as a financial instrument that generates returns but also as a source of peace of mind amid economic volatility.
In conclusion, gold is more than a precious metal; it is a strategic asset that serves as a pillar of financial stability and protection for the Indonesian community.
This opinion is based on data regarding national gold reserves, trends in gold demand, international and local gold prices, and gold investment products offered by Bank Syariah Indonesia, as presented in the Bullion Bank webinar materials.
